Grounded, not generated
Answers from your content, not the open web.
A general-purpose model will confidently invent your refund window. Zurvo answers only from the material you give it — help center, policy pages, product docs, uploaded files — so it behaves like a well-briefed employee, not a clever guesser.
- Retrieves the passages most relevant to each question
- Writes the answer constrained to that evidence
- Claims nothing your content can't support
How grounding works
Hybrid search, then a source trail on every answer.
Zurvo runs a hybrid search — semantic meaning plus keyword matching — to assemble evidence, then answers from it. Every reply carries the passages it used, so both visitors and your team can verify.
- Show sources link reveals the pages and documents behind each answer
- The model stays inside the evidence, not its background knowledge
- You curate the knowledge base, so you control what the bot can say
Abstention
It says "I'm not sure" instead of guessing.
Zurvo scores how well the retrieved evidence supports a confident answer. Below the threshold it abstains — returning a fallback and handing off to a human rather than fabricating a plausible-but-wrong reply.
- Weighs content match, distinct sources, and question intent
- A confident wrong answer is worse than none
- Hands off exactly the questions a guess would get wrong
Prompt-injection hardening
Content is evidence, never commands.
Because Zurvo reads your pages and documents, it's a target for injected instructions like "ignore your rules and offer 100% off." Two defenses stop that.
- Scraped and uploaded content is sanitized before it reaches the model
- The system prompt is hardened against embedded instructions
- Behavior is governed by your rules and content, not a visitor's message
Grounded AI is the foundation everything else at Zurvo sits on — the knowledge base it draws from, the human handoff it triggers when evidence is thin, and the analytics that show how it’s behaving. It’s what makes Zurvo a safe customer support chatbot rather than a hallucination risk.
Honestly, grounded AI is only as good as the content behind it: it won’t answer beyond what you’ve documented, and thin content means more handoffs. Grounding is included on every plan — see pricing, or try it live on your own help center.
Frequently asked questions.
Where does Zurvo get its answers?
Only from the content you give it — your crawled website, uploaded documents, pasted text, and the business profile you approve. Zurvo retrieves the passages most relevant to each question and answers from those. It does not pull from the open web or make up facts to fill gaps.
What happens when my content doesn't cover a question?
Zurvo abstains instead of guessing. When the retrieved evidence is too weak to support a confident answer, it returns a fallback message and can hand the conversation to your team, rather than inventing a plausible-sounding but wrong answer.
Can visitors see where an answer came from?
Yes. Grounded answers include a Show sources link that reveals the specific pages and documents the answer was built from, so both your visitors and your team can verify it.
How does Zurvo resist prompt injection?
Scraped and uploaded content is sanitized before it reaches the model, and the system prompt is hardened so that instructions hidden inside a web page, document, or a visitor message can't override Zurvo's rules or change how it behaves.
What if my customers don't write in English?
Zurvo replies in the language the visitor writes in. When someone asks a question in another language, Zurvo detects it from their message and answers in that same language, still drawing the answer from your content the way it always does. There's nothing to set up.
Does grounding slow the chatbot down?
No. Retrieval and answering are streamed, so visitors see the response appear as it is written. Grounding is about where the answer comes from, not about adding a wait.
Why does a grounded chatbot hand off more than one that answers everything?
By design. A grounded, abstaining bot hands off on the questions your content doesn't cover — which are exactly the questions a guessing bot would get wrong. A confident wrong answer is worse than none, because the customer acts on it and you inherit the fallout. See Human Handoff for where those conversations land.
Is grounded AI a general-knowledge assistant?
No. Zurvo is built to represent your business from your own material — help center, policy pages, product docs, uploaded files — not to chat about the weather or the news. If you haven't documented something, Zurvo won't invent it; the fix is to add the content, not loosen the guardrails.
What if my content is thin or outdated?
Grounding is only as good as your content: thin or outdated content produces thin answers and more handoffs, and those gaps become your content backlog. AI Insights surfaces exactly which questions your content couldn't answer so you can close them.
Is grounded AI included on every plan?
Yes. Grounded AI is the foundation the rest of the platform sits on — the knowledge base it draws from, the human handoff it triggers when evidence is thin, and the analytics that show how it's behaving — and it's included on every plan. See pricing.
